Herbet Wertheim Supports Gator Engineering, Donates $50 Million

Herbet Wertheim Supports Gator Engineering, Donates $50 Million

Awesome, Interesting, School
It was recently announced that the UF College of Engineering would be receiving $50 Million (with an M) from a single donor, the largest cash donation ever at the University of Florida. The person that helped make it possible? Dr. Herbert Wertheim. Dr. Wertheim prefers to go by Herby and I had the pleasure to hear him speak several times today. He was a practicing physician for many years as well as an inventor. His company, Brain Power Inc., produces eye lenses with coloring that reduces UV exposure and cataracts. In person, Herby is quite the character. He can always be seen sporting his red fedora that he acquired from a trip to Ecuador some years ago and is quick to tell a good story. His wife of 40+ years,…

The Gators Strike Again: A Fourth-quarter Turnaround

School, Sports, Video
The Florida Gators football team has done it once again this week and bring their undefeated season to 4 games in a row. It was a very mediocre game as the second half ended and the Gators trailed the Tennessee Volunteers 7-17 and it wasn't until late into the fourth quarter that the Gators came out fighting and were able to secure a win. It was another great day to be a Florida Gator!   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjotaPaMY5U

It’s Career Showcase Time Once Again

It’s Career Showcase Time Once Again

Adventures, School
[ezcol_1half][/ezcol_1half] Career Showcase is the once-a-semester event that affects a great deal of students across the University of Florida. For many, it means suiting up, printing a stack of resumes, and setting off to the O'Connell Center. Over the course of two days (non-technical and technical), thousands of students speak to representatives from hundreds of companies from a wide array of industries. Even so, the circus atmosphere has become almost comfortable for me int the past 2 years. "5th time is the charm" I keep telling myself and I can only wait and see what opportunities arise after my productive day today. To all of the recruiters and representatives that I spoke to today, I thank you for your time and diligence as I understand the endurance of a selections…
